MediaTek unveiled two chipsets, Helio G95 and G88
Although the future of processors seems to be those of 5G chipsets, the sunshine of the Helio chips has not yet set, and MediaTek has recently updated these processors with the introduction of the Helio G96 and Helio G88. It should be noted, however, that these two chipsets, despite their names, are not a direct replacement for the G95 and G85.
The Helio G96, like the G95, has a pair of Cortex-A76 processor cores clocked at 2.05 GHz and six A55 cores; In contrast, it uses a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics core, which is lower in performance than the Helio G95 MC76 MC4 core.
But the Helio G96 also has upgrades. For example, this chipset supports 120 Hz displays with a maximum resolution of + 1080p. The processor’s support for the handset’s main camera has also been upgraded to a maximum resolution of 108 megapixels, although like the G95 it supports 4K video recording at 30 frames per second.
Other upgrades to the Helio G96 include faster LTE network support, faster memory support (UFS 2.2) and a newer version of Bluetooth (5.2).
But in the case of the Helio G88, the chip was very similar to its predecessor, and like it, uses two 2GHz Cortex-A75 processor cores and six A55 cores. Its Mali-G52 MC2 graphics core has the same 1 GHz speed, and even its RAM, memory and LTE modem support has not changed.
But what has changed in the Helio G88 is its support for 90 Hz displays with a maximum resolution of + 1080p (Helio G85 supports 90 Hz displays with a resolution of + 720p). The processor can also support the 64-megapixel main camera, which is a good upgrade over the G85’s 48-megapixel camera.
Both the G96 and G88 chipsets have been upgraded to the HyperEngine 2.0 Lite standard and support dual-SIM performance with VoLTE capability. They also have new camera processing capabilities such as 3DNR and MFNR.
