Twitter adds captions to audio tweets


Twitter announced on Thursday that the company was distributing captions for voice tweets. Twitter first introduced voice tweets in June 2020, but at the time it was quickly criticized by users of the platform for not having captions.

Above is an image of the captions and the CC icon on the web, taken from an audio tweet created at the time of writing this article.

Now, when you create voice tweets on Twitter (something you can only do in iOS now), captions are automatically generated in supported languages ​​such as English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi , French, Indonesian, Korean and Italian.

To see the captions of a tweet, you can click or tap the CC icon in the upper right corner of the voice tweet window. Twitter has told Dorge that captions are only available on new audio tweets, so you can not see them on older copies.

You can also listen to a voice tweet at the same time and follow the captions, although some of these voice tweets may eventually be deleted automatically. In this case, it is better to follow the person on Twitter so that you can also listen to his temporary tweets.

When the voice tweets feature was introduced, it was also revealed that there was no special team on Twitter at the time to access problems with this feature. Instead, employees had to volunteer their time to handle tasks related to this feature. The company has since addressed the issue and announced that it has formed teams to focus on the feature in September.

Twitter also offers captions on Twitter Space, its social room like a clubhouse.

The biggest benefit of this feature for Persian language users is that they can easily use the captions of audio tweets as subtitles to more easily understand the meaning of the tweet published by a person in another language. We also hope that Twitter will add a similar feature to the translation of YouTube captions to its platform.
