UBI Research: About 98% of handsets in the first half of this year were 6 inches and up


According to the latest report from the UBI Research Institute, almost all OLED handsets introduced in the first half of this year were 6 inches or larger in diameter. Also, the market share of the old 6- to 7-inch phones in the first half of this year was about 97.5%, which shows a significant growth compared to the same period in 2018, when the share of these phones was 78%.

If we want to talk about numbers, we must say that 119 of the 122 models that were released in the first six months of this year were equipped with old screens. The Asus Zenfone 8 is the only handset that is less than 6 inches in diameter (5.9 inches) and the Sony Xperia 10 Mark 3 is exactly 6 inches in diameter. At the other end of the spectrum are the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold and the Huawei Mate X2, which are the only older 8-inch models on the market; There was no 7-inch model among the phones.

Approximately half of the handsets on this list (64 of the 122 models) had a pixel density of 400-500ppi, while the pixel density of the 48 models was below 400ppi. Only 10 models had a pixel density above 500ppi, of which the Sony Xperia 1 brand 2 with a display with a pixel density of 643ppi was able to be at the top of these phones.

Also, most models (88.5%) had an image to body ratio of 80 to 90%, while 11.5% of models had a ratio above 90%. Interestingly, among the above models, there is no handheld whose old display occupies less than 80% of the front body. The model with the highest aspect ratio was the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 4G.

And last but not least, the majority of handsets (103 models) used a hollow hole for the selfie camera, while only 13 models used a notch notch and 6 models used the top edge of the screen to host the selfie camera. In this list, no handheld has used the camera under the screen. Of course, it’s not bad to know that so far only the ZTE Axon 20 4G phone, which was introduced last year, uses this technology, and its next model, the Axon 30 5G, is also on the way.
