Xiaomi is now the second largest smartphone maker in the world


While Huawei has been left out of the global smartphone competition due to US sanctions, other Chinese companies, including Xiaomi, have made the most of the opportunity, and today a Canalys report confirms this.

According to the latest report from the Canalys Research Institute, Xiaomi was the world’s second largest smartphone maker in terms of sales in the second quarter of this year.

As you can see in the image below, Samsung is still at the top with 19% market share, followed by Xiaomi with a very short market share of 17%.

Interestingly, sales of Xiaomi handsets have grown by more than 300 percent in Latin America, more than 150 percent in Africa and about 50 percent in Europe. Also, the average price of each of the company’s phones is still 40% lower than the average price of Samsung handsets and 75% lower than the average price of Apple iPhones. Of course, Xiaomi has recently introduced more flagship phones and hopes to increase their number in the future.

Canalys said in a report that Xiaomi’s next goal will be to increase sales of high-end handsets such as the May 11 Ultra, but since companies like Oppo and Vivo are pursuing exactly the same goal, it could be a big challenge for Xiaomi.

It seems that if Xiaomi continues to grow at the same pace, the company may overtake Samsung as the world’s top smartphone maker. Apple currently has a 14% market share, while Oppo and Vivo each have a 10% market share and are unlikely to be a serious competitor to Xiaomi at this time. However, we have to wait and see where the competition of these giants reaches and which of them will become the largest smartphone maker in the world.
